SALARY: £23,114 – £23,893 per annum (NJC Points 4-6) – NJC Pay award pending for 2024/25

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant who is a team player, with the ability to use initiative and be adaptable and flexible in their approach to work, with excellent IT, interpersonal and communication skills.

Swalcliffe Park School provides specialist residential education and care for up to 70 secondary aged boys (10-19 yrs) all of whom are on the Autism Spectrum. We are currently seeking to employ highly motivated and professional Learning Support Assistants to join our established team. Duties include supporting Key Stage 3 and/or 4 students in a range of learning situations both in school and within the community.

Working as a Learning Support Assistant you will uphold the vision, holistic ethos and policies of the school and work in compliance with the school’s Quality of Life Framework. You will work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, the management teams and residential care colleagues to help ensure that the school maintains an “Outstanding” Ofsted judgement for the quality of education and care provided for all students.

DUTIES

Some of your duties as a Learning Support Assistant in a Key Stage Education Team (KS3 or 4) will include:

  • Work effectively with groups and individual students within the classroom
  • Support students with homework and assignments outside the classroom
  • Support students with revision and access arrangements for exams
  • Observe behaviour and learning styles of individual students to inform target setting
  • Support them in a variety of learning activities to enhance their opportunities for independence and social inclusion, either onsite or in the community
  • Support the implementation of specific student interventions and data collection:
    • Support interventions devised by teachers, therapists or the literacy coordinator
    • Collect observational data on progress against individual targets
    • Record information in the school’s provision map and management information system (School Pod)
  • Support the smooth and efficient running of the school:
    • Fulfil the role of key worker for nominated student(s)
    • Supervise students at break and lunchtime
    • Contribute to whole school events
    • Provide cover for absent colleagues
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements of the Education Team ensuring risk assessments and safe methods of working are appropriately utilised
  • Apply the policies, procedures and practice for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children are implemented effectively within SPS’ Education Team, along with relevant Local Safeguarding Children Board policies and procedures
  • Work in partnership with children and their families in partnership with other professionals to enable change to build resilience in families

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

As a Learning Support Assistant you will have the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • Minimum of GCSE Level education, including Mathematics and English at Grade 4 (formerly C) or above or equivalent (essential)
  • An interest and experience of working within either an educational setting or youth and community work environment (essential)
  • Experience of working with students with ASC (desirable)
  • A full driving licence and be eligible and be willing to drive a school vehicle to transport students to community-based activities
